Houston

Conrad Julius Tschumper (Connie), 82 years old, passed away at his home on August 9, 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born to Julius and Marie Tschumper on February 8, 1943. Connie grew up on the family farm on South Ridge Road. He graduated Salutatorian of his class at St. Pete’s in Hokah. After graduation he started working for J&H Auto Body Shop in La Crosse, WI. He was self-taught in the art of car repair. He worked for J&H for several years and on June 27, 1964 he married Nancy Lee Conway at St. John’s Catholic Church in Caledonia and they had three children. In 1967, he moved his family to Houston and started Connie’s Body Shop and Towing. Connie worked at this job that he loved for over 50 years.

Some of Connie’s very many interests and loves included playing cards, boating and playing and singing in country western bands including “Connie and the Starlighters” with his son playing drums. Also, during this time, he discovered softball. He played from his late 30’s until he was 76 years old, loving every minute. Connie also did some umping. There wasn’t much he didn’t do that he wanted to do. His interests included boxing, horses, snowmobiles, motorcycles, airplanes and race cars. He drove the J&H race car at the La Crosse Speedway on weekends when he worked there. He and friends, including special friends Mike Lee and Duane Schmitz (cousin), spent a lot of time riding motorcycle including many trips to Sturgis. Nancy took the Sturgis trip with Connie 25 times and they have great memories of those times. Over the years, Connie and friends also spent a great deal of time riding around beautiful Southeast MN.

Connie was a workaholic and instilled that work ethic in his children. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Connie is survived by his wife, Nancy and children Thomas (Monica), Todd (Shawn) and daughter Tracy, ten grandsons Dan, Connor, Alex, Andrew (Sarah), Tanner, Colin, Christopher, Casey (Elizabeth), Chase, Carter (Izzy) and one granddaughter Tiffany (Nick) Neis along with four great grandchildren Landon and Reegan Neis, Parker Lee and Daphne Tschumper. Connie is survived by siblings, Gary, Linda and Renee, sister-in-law Robyn, in-laws Gary and Linda Conway, John Conway (Joanne), Bob and Laurie Conway and Carla and Wayne Fitting.

Connie was preceded in death by his parents, sister Darlene and Brother Kenneth.

Connie’s family will forever hold him in their hearts.
