Clifford Ronald Pierce, 91, of Lewiston, MN, died on March 18, 2026, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Rushford, MN. Born on March 6, 1935, in Lewiston, Minnesota, Clifford was the son of Cullen and Helen (Rinn) Pierce and grew up with fond memories of Fremont, where he attended grade school.
After graduating from Lewiston High School in 1952, Clifford embarked on a life filled with hard work, dedication, and love. He married the love of his life, Joan Moger, on October 21, 1954, in Highland, MN, and together they built a life that spanned generations. The couple lived on the family farm in Fremont before moving back to Lewiston.
Clifford was a man of many talents and passions. He operated a fuel station, mechanic shop and towing service for 15 years before taking on a new adventure in 1976 when he purchased The Rec Bar and Cafe, a beloved local gathering spot. Meanwhile, he also owned Lewiston Concessions. Clifford ran the Rec Bar and Cafe until 2023, when he decided it was time to pass the torch.
His commitment to service extended beyond his businesses. Clifford proudly served in the National Guard starting in 1953, he even braved two weeks of winter training in Alaska. He dedicated 40 years to the Army National Guard and retired with an E8 Master Sergeant rank. He was an active member of the Utica Presbyterian Church, served on the Lewiston City Council, and was honored to hold the position of Lewiston Mayor. He played active roles in the Lewiston Fire Department, including Fire Chief and Fire Warden, and was a member of the Jaycees, Lewiston Lions Club, Lewiston American Legion, Lewiston Sportsman's Club, and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.
In addition to his many community contributions, Clifford was a part-time policeman in Lewiston was a member of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association and Winona County Sheriff's Posse. He also served as an officer on the Tri-County Firefighters Association. His love for adventure often led him on fishing trips to Canada and deer hunting outings, where he cherished memories with family and friends.
Clifford is survived by his children, Craig Pierce, Steve (Linda) Pierce, Diane (Alan) Sommers; grandchildren, Christopher "Pooter" (Teresa) Pierce, Carla (Josh) Meyers, Catie (Dave) Pierce, Jenny Pierce, Paul (Fei) Pierce, Tyler Pierce, April (Peter) Hendricks, Janell (Edward) Fitzgerald, Jay Sommers; great-grandchildren, Bradey (Taylor) Woodard, Carson Pierce, Taylor Pierce-Sprenger, Calie (Alyssa) Pierce, Cassie Pierce, Miranda (Collin) Jorgensen, Michael Jorgensen, Evelyn Pierce, Brock Hendricks, Luke Hendricks, Ava Fitzgerald, Eli Fitzgerals; great-great-granddaughter, Lettie Woodard; brother, Floyd Pierce; brothers-in-law, Arnold "Dale" (Karen) Moger, Arland (Marilyn) Moger, Gary (Karen) Moger, Jim Prigge; sister-in-law, Betty (Mark) Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cullen and Helen Pierce; wife, Joan Pierce; daughter, Dawn Pierce; granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Pierce; brothers and sisters-in laws, Sherril Pierce, Marion and Jim Simon, Orlie Moger, Carroll Moger, and Carmen Prigge.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral services for Clifford will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am.
