After graduating from Lewiston High School in 1953, Clifford embarked on a life filled with hard work, dedication, and love. He married his sweetheart, Joan Moger, on October 21, 1954, in Highland, MN, and together they built a life that spanned generations. The couple lived on the family farm in Fremont before moving back to Lewiston.

Clifford was a man of many talents and aspirations. Together, he and Joan owned and operated a fuel station, mechanic shop and towing service for 15 years before taking on a new adventure in 1976 when they purchased The Recreation Bar and Cafe, a beloved local gathering spot. Clifford’s commitment to service extended beyond the businesses. He proudly served in the National Guard starting in 1953. Around 1964 he and his unit attended 2 weeks of winter training in Alaska! He dedicated 40 years to the Army National Guard and retired with an E8 Master Sergeant rank. In May of 2024, he was privileged to go on the Freedom Honor Flight!

He was an active member of the Utica Presbyterian Church, served on the Lewiston City Council, and was honored to hold the position of Lewiston Mayor. He played active roles in the Lewiston Fire Department, including Fire Chief and Fire Warden, and was a member of the Jaycees, Lewiston Lions Club, Lewiston American Legion, Lewiston Sportsman's Club, and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association including cooking for the Youth Archery Hunt at Camp Ripley.

In addition to his many community contributions, Clifford was a part-time policeman in Lewiston, was a member of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association and Winona County Sheriff's Posse. He also served as an officer on the Tri-County Firefighters Association.

Hobbies he enjoyed were boating on the Mississippi river, deer hunting, family vacations and fishing trips to Canada, and watching sports on T.V.
