Cindy Hartert

Cindy Marie Hartert, 63, of Kellogg, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 10, 2026. She was born on May 23, 1962, in Wabasha, MN, to Lawrence and Dorothy (Kruger) Mussell. Cindy grew up alongside her eight siblings, surrounded by love and camaraderie.

After graduating from Wabasha-Kellogg High School in 1980, Cindy pursued her passion for beauty and graduated from the Dunwoody Institute for Cosmetology. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald “Jerry” Hartert, on June 29, 1985, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. They built a life together in Kellogg, where they raised two amazing children, Dylan and Carly. In 1995, they moved to their home in the country, where everyone loved to gather.

Cindy worked as a dental assistant in various offices throughout the years and proudly operated her own in-home hair salon, Cindy’s Country Cuts. She was known for her generous spirit, ready smile, spicy personality, and always being there for others. A natural caregiver, she loved cleaning houses and helping people in whatever way she could.

Cindy had a passion for life that was infectious. She loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandkids. Whether she was side-by-side riding, gardening, or lounging by the pool, Cindy embraced the outdoors and all the joy it brought her. Her adventures, laughter, and fearless attitude made every gathering a fun and memorable occasion.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Jerry; children, Dylan (Abbie) Hartert, Carly (Nick) Koethe; grandchildren, Ryan, Reid, Avery, Reese, Ruby; siblings, Tom (Angie) Mussell, John (Bee) Mussell, Diane (Richard) Doty; brothers-in-law, Jack Hagan, Jim Hondlik; parents-in-law, Leigh and Joni Hartert.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Dorothy Mussell; siblings, Roger Mussell, Cheryl Hondlik, Wendy Hagan, Mary Jane Mussell, Billy Mussell; and sister-in-law, Peggy Hartert Oats.

A memorial service for Cindy will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM at The Front Porch in Kellogg, MN. Funeral Celebrant, Jen Corcoran will be officiating the service. A Celebration of Life will follow from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. A private family burial will be held at Greenfield Cemetery in Kellogg.
