Carol LaVonne (Ronnenberg) Evenson, 89, of Winona, passed away in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Carol was born to Alfred and Erna (Foell) Ronnenberg in Stockton, Minnesota on April 20, 1933. She grew up on the farm with her parents and five sisters: Beverly, Wanda, Donna, Janice, and Gloria. Her family later moved to Wabasha Street in Winona when Carol was in High School. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1951. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the theater program. Upon graduating high school, she worked at Bell Telephone in Winona as a telephone operator. A year after graduating high school, she married Charles Evenson on May 10, 1952, at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Winona, Minnesota. They were blessed with eight children together.

Carol and Charles lived in Colfax and Trempealeau and later came back to Winona in the early 60’s. It was at this time that Carol was a homemaker and a very busy mom of 8 children. Once the youngest was in school she started working at Knit Craft in Goodview, Minnesota where she worked for over 20 years.

In Carol’s later years she loved to play cards, especially Bridge and sheephead. She enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, sewing, and baking.

She will be remembered for her kindness and great talents of putting together many wonderful meals for her large family at holidays and get-togethers.

Carol is survived by her children, Cynthia (Kevin) Brabbit, Debbie (Tim) Boyd, Gail Evenson, David (Heidi) Evenson, Karen Williams, Scott (Holly) Evenson, Doug (Amy) Evenson, and Brian (Crista) Evenson; her grandchildren; Hans (Kathleen) Brabbit, Jens (Katherine) Brabbit, Heather (Steve) Marx, Aixa Evenson, Cody Evenson, Spencer (Cara) Evenson, Gitanja Williams, Sean (Katie) Williams, Linsey Williams, Sarah (Chris) Richardson, Mandy (Jimmy) Nelson, Cole (Elizabeth) Evenson, Tyler Evenson, Alexis Evenson, Jordan Evenson, and Cameron Evenson; 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and sister Donna Ferdinandsen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Erna Ronnenberg; husband, Charles Evenson; sisters, Beverly, Wanda, Janice, and Gloria; and grandson, Christian Lee Brabbit.

Memorials are preferred to Winona Area Hospice or Central Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Parker and Dr. Katrina Hammel, all the staff at Mayo Oncology, the Winona Area Hospice Nurses, Mary Beth, Heather and Niki; the Winona Area Hospice aids, Michelle, Jenny, and Emma; Carol’s massage therapist, Vicki; and her social worker, Sheila.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Central Lutheran Church in Winona, MN at 11 a.m. A visitation will take place an hour prior from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
