Betty Lou Lovlien, age 81, of Altura, joined the more immediate presence of her Savior on Sunday, December 17th at Winona Health Care, Winona, MN, following a brief hospitalization. Betty Lou was born to Vern and Inez (Kobler) Stephan in Norton Township, Winona County, on February 25th, 1936. From the beginning, Betty Lou LOVED children. Betty Lou grew up on the family farm, Shady Elm near Altura and was a gracious hostess and caregiver throughout her life. She met David Lovlien in high school they have been inseparable ever since. On April 28th, 1956 they married and lived briefly in Omaha, Nebraska, while Dave served in the Air Force. Following that they returned to the family farm and set on a lifelong career of farming and caring for others. She was a nurses aide at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN for a short time. Betty Lou continued her role as caregiver, taking in her Mother and Father-in-law when they were ill. After raising her children, she began caring & loving other children for the Terbeest, Gerbers, Andersons, Vertheins, her own grandchildren, Brosigs and Proschinskes, She was known for celebrating holidays with special treats for the children and gave out many, many Easter Baskets every year.
Left to honor Betty Lou and remember her love are her husband, David Lovlien, her three children, Mike (Cheryl) Lovlien, Linda (Gary) Mrozek and Stephanie Lovlien; four grandchildren; Brittany (Andrew) Schou, Olan (Samantha) Lovlien, Janelle (Michael)Lafrentz, and Chelsea (Zack Krings) Mrozek; five great-grandchildren: Oliver, August, Sierra, Maya and James; two brothers, Earl (Darlene) Stephan and Melvin (Marjorie) Stephan, a sister-in-law Dolores Stephan and many nieces and nephews. Betty Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Inez & Vern Stephan and a brother Gerald Stephan. Betty Lou will be remembered for her bright smile and the caring, servant heart she brought to her family and the community.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 22nd at Our Saviors Moravian Church, Altura, MN., with the Rev. Gregory Behrend officiating. Burial will follow at the Hebron Cemetery Altura. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday at Our Saviors Moravian Church in Altura, and again at church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Lovlien family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Winona's caring facilities: Callista Court, Sauer Health Care and Winona Health Care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty Lou's name to Our Saviors Moravian Church Children and Youth Ministry. Hoff Funeral Service of St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements.
