Betsy Ann Virnig

Betsy Ann Virnig, 95, died June 6, 2023 at Chosen Valley Care Center, in Chatfield, MN.

Betsy was born June 7, 1927, in Fremont, MN to Wallace and Gretchen (Pierce) Kletske. She and Gabriel Virnig were married May 20, 1950 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in Lewiston. The couple made their home in St. Charles. Betsy was a homemaker, raising her children. When they were older, she worked in the kitchen as a cook at St. Charles School System for 14 years before retiring. She also worked part time at the St. Charles Greenhouse and cleaned homes for a few friends. After the tragic loss of her husband, she moved to Elba to be closer to her children.

She was a member of the Able Homemakers of Elba, the St. Charles Senior Citizens, and past president of St. Charles V.F.W. Betsy loved playing cards, especially 500. She also enjoyed camping, which she did for many years.

Betsy is survived by her two sons, Larry (Caron) Virnig of Townsend, MT and Lonnie (Londa) Virnig of Elba; daughter, Lanita “Sis” (Tom) Putzier of Elba; grandchildren, Timothy (Stephanie) Putzier of Rochester and Jillian (Matt) Ferk of Altura; step-granddaughter, Melissa Kieffer; great grandchildren, Gavin and Audrey Putzier; step-great grandchildren, Kyra, Ashton, and Isaiah; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gabriel; and her beloved little poodle, Morgan: her faithful companion and love of her life.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service with the Reverend Tim Biren officiating.  Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service.  She will be laid to rest at Fremont Scotch Cemetery.  Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service - St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements.
