Bernette Doran

Altura, Minnesota Bernette M. Doran of Altura died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at the Lewiston Villa. She was born in Rollingstone, Minnesota to Louis and Adella (Speltz) Schmit. Bernette graduated from Holy Trinity School in Rollingstone and attended Winona Business College. She then worked for a Winona law firm and later for an architectural firm as a secretary. Bernette subsequently moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Northwest Airlines, later moving to Milwaukee to work as secretary to the president of Schlitz Brewery. On May 17, 1952 Bernette and Tom (Bud) Doran were married at Holy Trinity Church in Rollingstone. They made their home in Iron River, Michigan from 1952-59, and then lived in Rollingstone before moving to Altura in 1967. Bernette assisted her husband with his tax business for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Altura and served as CCW president. She also belonged to the St. Therese Society in Rollingstone. Bernette enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, bowling and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her husband Tom, three sons, Dennis (Kathy) Doran of Winona; Bill (Melanie) Doran of Rochester and Paul (Karin) Doran of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Josh, Jessie, Trent and Sierra; two sisters, Rosemary (Jim) Kreidermacher of Rollingstone and Dorothy Gengler of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and one brother, Francis (Leila) Schmit of Toledo, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Cyril and Robert Schmit. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Altura. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Rollingstone. Friends may call at St. Anthony Catholic Church from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 7th and one hour before the service on Saturday. A Rosary will be recited 7:30 PM Friday at the church. Hoff Funeral Home - Lewiston Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
