Winona, MNArthur J. Steffes, 80, died Sunday, October 13, 2002 at the Winona Community Memorial Hospital in Winona. Arthur was born July 15, 1922 in Winona, MN to Arthur G. and Margaret (Lynch) Steffes. He married Ruth Johnson on November 3, 1945 in Winona, MN. She died December 13, 2001. Arthur lived for radio and was a life long announcer. He worked for several radio stations including KWNO in Winona, KSTP in St. Paul, KVOX in Moorhead and KOTE in Fergus Falls. He retired from radio in the year 2000. Music and sports were very important in Arthur's life. Arthur was proud of the fact that he was a direct descendant of John O'Dea who quarried Sugar Loaf in Winona. He was one of the founders of the Winona High School Booster Club. Arthur was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona.Survivors include three sons, Timothy (Linda), Thomas (Lynette) and Peter all of Winona; six grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Phillip, Mark and Mara Steffes and Emily (John) Cassellius; great-granddaughter, Page Steffes; a twin sister, Arlene (Donald) Turkington of St. Louis Park, MN; a brother, Eugene (Marlene) Steffes of Trempealeau, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth and an infant son, Arthur J. Steffes Jr.A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, October 17, 2002 at 11:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Keefe officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Rollingstone, MN. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - Burke Winona Chapel on Wednesday from 5-8:00pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Arthur's grandchildren. There will be a Christian Prayer Service at 6:00pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
