Armin Korthauer

January 1, 1900 — December 15, 2002

      Armin G. Korthauer, 74, of Houston died Sunday, December 15, 2002, at St. Anne Extended Care in Winona, Minn.       Armin was born on March 20, 1928, in Verdi, Minn. to August J. and Verona (Schulze) Korthauer. At the age of 8 he and his family moved to Caledonia, Minn. Armin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On September 8, 1956, he married Donna Allen at the Lewis Valley Lutheran Church in Holmen, Wis. Armin was a farmer as well as being employed at C.B.S. Homes in LaCrescent, Minn. and Gundersen Lutheran’s maintenance department in LaCrosse, Wis. He was a member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, where he had worked as a maintenance worker for the last 13 years. His passion included spending time with his family and caring for his tree farm.          Armin is survived by his wife, Donna; five children: Richard (Margaret) Korthauer and their children, Matthew, Laura, and Kathryn of Mondovi, Wis., Dale (Carol Rae) Korthauer and their son, Samuel of Hayfield, Minn., Gary (Karen) Korthauer and their children, Sarah and Michelle of Savage, Minn., Janet (Tom) Freudenstein and their children, Christine, Heidi, and Kurt of Shakopee, Minn., Carol (Mark) Polodna and their children, Taylor, Connor, and Morgan of Winona, Minn.; one brother, Robert (June) Korthauer of Rosemount, Minn.; four sisters: Dorothy (Orval) Sorum of Winona, Minn., Lora Ann (Art) Kroening of Baldwin, Wis., Mary (Matthew) Wadium of LaCrosse, Wis. and Alice (Dewey) Mueller of Grand Island, Fla.; and mother-in-law, Mildred Allen of Holmen, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Estella.       The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Arnet – Sheldon American Legion Post of Houston. Private family burial has been scheduled. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Homes – Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.       The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Friends of Houston Public Library or to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
