Arly H. Hamman, 80, of St. Charles died Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester. Arly was born on March 20, 1945, in Winona to Harold and Gladys (Burgdorf) Hamman. Growing up on the family farm, he graduated from St. Charles High School and went on to serve in the United States Army.
Arly led of life of service, he became a part time Police officer in 1971, volunteered for St. Charles Ambulance for 42 years (1972 – 2014), St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years (1974 – 2014), St. Charles City Council member (1978 – 2001), Mayor (2001 – 2004) in addition to fighting forest fires as part of the Hot Shots parachuting team.
He owned and operated Arly's Garage - auto repair and towing. Arly had a passion for stock car racing, also provided towing services for many area racetracks.
Arly was proud of three generations of EMS providers in the family. He was an avid collector of juke boxes and three-wheelers.
Survivors include a sister, Beverly (Cecil) Hulshizer of Utica and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son and a brother.
A gathering of friends will be from 4-7 pm. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles. A time for sharing memories of Arly will follow the gathering time and be led by Jack LaValla.
Military honors will be presented at the funeral home following the sharing time by St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Post.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department, St. Charles Area Community Foundation or St. Jude’s.
