Anita Lee Palmquist

Anita Lee Palmquist died on February 16, 2019 at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston, MN.

Anita Joyce Hartman was born in Hokah Township of Houston County, MN to Carl and Hazel (Schild) Hartman on November 20, 1922 in a house that was built by her grandfather, Fred Hartman.

She attended grade school in Hokah and then graduated from Houston High School in 1939. She attended college at Winona State University and later taught in a country school. Anita was an educator in Hokah public schools for over 30 years, where she was also a librarian, media generalist and a music teacher.

Anita served as a Girl Scout leader, as board member of Houston County Farm Bureau, and the Houston County Historical Society. Her lifelong passion was genealogy for which she Published several books of her lineage. Anita has also published a book of her memoirs.

She was a lifelong member of the Hokah United Methodist Church, where she played the organ, and served as choir director for children and adult choirs.

Anita was united in marriage with Howard Lee on October 23, 1943. Howard died in 1957. She married Maynard Palmquist in 1982. Maynard died on November 30, 2013.

Anita is survived by her son, David and his wife Deborah of Mississippi; Granddaughter, Tara and her husband, James of Florida; sister-in-law, Lorraine Orr of Winona, MN; stepchildren, Clare of Watertown, MN; Diane of Oregon City, Oregon; Janet and her husband Paul Ask of Port Huron, MI; 13 nieces and nephews; and by four step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Hazel (Schild) Hartman.; Husbands: Howard Lee and Maynard Palmquist; Granddaughter, Heather Joy Lee; Siblings: Ardelle and her husband, Paul Miller of Randolph, Eloise and her husband Ralph Lee of Houston, MN, Betty and her husband, Russell Rossi of Winona, MN, and by Lyle and his wife, Nancy Hartman of Delaware.

There will be a funeral service for Anita at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Hokah United Methodist Church in Hokah, MN. Burial will follow the service at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hokah. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to the Hokah United Methodist Church or the Historical Society of Houston County in Caledonia, MN.
