Allen Thompson

October 5, 1930 — March 7, 2024

Allen Robert Thompson of Winona, MN, a resident of Watkins Manor, age 93, left his earthly life on March, 7, 2024, trusting and believing Jesus Christ for his heavenly home.

Allen was born October 5, 1930, to Earl and Louise (Haliday) Thompson, of the Wyattville/Lewiston area, at the then, Winona General Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Charles (Gertrude Greethurst), Dorothy Thompson, Myrtle "Beth" (Arnold Stever), Kirk (Ethel Hornberg), Ruth (Delmer Steinhouse), and John (Mary Fjelstad).

Survivors include nieces: Susan Haedtke, Nancy Stever, Dorothy (Dale) Patrick, Judy Steinhouse, Louise Kiecker, Julie Stever; nephews Patrick (Janet), Daniel (Bonnie), Thomas (Deborah), James (Jenny), William Thompson and Peter (Jennifer) Thompson. Other family survivors include numerous great and great-great nieces, nephews and families.

Graduating from Lewiston High School in 1948, Allen was immediately employed by Eustermann's Auto and Implement in Lewiston, MN. Allen entered the U.S. Army service in January of 1952, serving in Korea from December 1952 through November 1953. He was assigned to the G2, 302nd Technical Intelligence Coordinator's Office at Eighth Army

Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

Upon his honorable army discharge, Allen was hired by the C.R. Anthony Company, A family department store in February, 1954. He was employed as a manager in training for three years at the Spring Valley, MN store. In August, 1957, he was named manager of the Anthony store in Humboldt/Dakota City, IA. In later years, he also supervised Anthony stores in Eagle Grove and Webster City, IA.

In Humboldt, Allen participated in several community service clubs. As a member of the Humboldt/Dakota City Chamber of Commerce, he had the opportunity to both chair and serve many times on the Chamber Retail Committee, as well as serving as Vice President and Chamber President.

He was active in Humboldt's Oak Hill Church, serving in several capacities including church treasurer and leading the Berean Senior Fellowship.

Resigning from the Anthony Company, he moved to St. Anthony, MN, in 1983. He was employed at Bethel University/Seminary in Arden Hills as Postal Coordinator, a contract station under St. Paul U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1993, moving to the Winona area.

In Winona, he joined Pleasant Valley Church, assisting in the church library and in a variety of programs including working with the Senior Fellowship, also facilitating a small group senior Bible study. He became a charter member of Wordsmiths writing group, resulting in a third privately printed book for the benefit of family and friends. All of his books featured life-long experiences and observations from childhood to present time. He also enjoyed a hobby of scenic photography.

Memorial services will be held at Pleasant Valley Church in Winona, MN, at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 18, 2024. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 AM. Pastor Chad Ellenburg will be officiating the service. Private interment will be taking place at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley Church missions or Gideons International.
